Lest anyone be fooled by party names, the Liberals are to Dief's economic right by a decent margin. Oh, and Dief's a former member of the Orange Order and an anti-Catholic bigot.

CCF: 40 seats (+15)
Social Credit: 22 seats

Result:Liberal Minority with CCF support

Prime Minister-designate: Paul Martin Sr. (Lib)*

Winters, a Blue Tory in all but name, would never be accepted by the socialist CCF as the 75-year-old St-Laurent's successor.
