Roussel de Bailleul

Immediately after Manzikert, the Norman general Roussel de Bailleul revolted and attempted to set up his own state in Galatia. He even defeated initial attempts by the Byzantines to dislodge him. What if he had been successful?

He would've needed to make peace with either the Byzantines or more likely the Turks if he intended on having his little state survive as an independent entity. His state would probably be an ally to the waves of Crusaders crossing into Asia Minor.

His successors in Galatia could have been natural allies with the Crusader forces, and may even persuade a few to remain in Galatia, and used their help at the expense of the Byzantines and the Turks. Roussel de Bailleul had died in 1077, more than a decade before the First Crusade. Perhaps due to de Bailleul's past relations with Robert "Guiscard" de Hauteville, Bohemond of Taranto might be the one to propose a military pact with the reigning Prince/Duke/Count of Galatia.
