So during the Rose Map / British Ultimatum, I think we can all agree that the British (or at least Salisbury) were idiots. The ultimatum breached the Treaty of Windsor, destabilized Portugal, made the British look like dicks for not submitting the issue to arbitration and didn't get territory that furthered any core goal. Delagoa Bay in Port. East Africa, however, would have been very important to the British, both as a port and to surround Transvaal.
So my question is whether the British could have obtained Delagoa Bay in exchange for some or all of the disputed area. Or is there no other good place for a major port/capital in Port. East Africa, and so it's too important to the Portuguese?
