Rommel's fate post WW2

IOTL Rommel prevented that his son joined the SS and shortly before his suicide he warned him about military ana politics.

So I believe that after the war he stay out of both.

Rommel and the SS had a very antagonistic relationship going back to 1934 when he stopped a military parade because he refused to have his men march with them because they weren't 'real soldiers'. He viewed them as thugs loyal not to Germany first, but instead to the the Nazi Party. It only got worse as the SS built their own deaths squads, death camps and seperate army with its chain of command bipassing the military leaders. The feelings were mutual and it was Himmler who convinced Hitler to have him liquidated.

He warned his son about rising up too high. That his best times in his life were as a simple soldier. That after he became "The People's Field Marshal" he found himself with a duty to protection the people in his area of operations from his own government and a greater duty to his people to try to find an early end to the war by treason if neccessary in order to prevent half of Germany from being raped and pillaged by the Red Army.

Perhaps that is why Manfred stayed a popular politician, but never went for the highest seat of power. That if one rises too high the proverbal weight of the world is on your soldiers and there is only one way to go once you have reached the top.

By the way an hour long Manfred Rommel interview in English below if you are interested. I linked it to the time in the interview where he talks about Churchill's feelings about Rommel and his feelings about Churchill during the war below
