After Cannae, Hannibal wanted to present to Rome terms that would benefit Carthage. Rome more or less said "screw you" and raised another army.

What terms would Hannibal have accepted? He wanted a dismantling of the Italian client state system in the south of Italy and Carthaginian dominance on Sicily and Sardinia.

Let's suppose Rome counteroffers with conceding Sardinia. It insists on Roman dominance on Sicily (not a monopoly like they had prewar) and allows an independent Syracuse, which is Carthaginian allied, but not a satellite, as long as Carthage docks no warships on Sicily. They also offer the equivalent of three year's worth of taxes. This is take it or leave it, the Romans will fight until Hannibal goes away if he refuses.
