Rome rules the earth

I've seen Fawlty Towers on my local PBS station. They don't show it regularly or anything, just occasionally they'll do like three day 24 hour marathons. It's a good show.

A Roman Empire would need stability out the proverbial ass. Their dislike of experimentation might actually help here. I could definitely see something like Roman society becoming so dominant that it would basically reach an "end of history" type of scenario. For awhile, anyway... I think the Roman Empire conquering the world is pretty ASB (first of all, why would they want to?) but them actually holding it is even more ASB.

They'd need lots of stability and they'd have to be very decentralized. Long term communication would be hard, but the Mongols could administrate most of Eurasia for a short period of time, so it could be done.

I think we'd see less of the Romans conquering the world, but absorbing it, so it wouldn't be the Roman Empire ruling the world but rather the Roman Federation, which would have several different consulates in various parts of the world.

BTW, I just don't even see how the Americas could be included.
