"Hoover injured in accident;Charles Curtis nominated as Republican candidate."
Today while driving to the National Republican Convention here in our own Kansas City to likely obtain the nomination, famed republican Herbert Hoover was injured in a car accident which will keep him in the hospital for several months. Hoover is quoted as saying that, 'I cannot run for president in this condition so I plead with my fellow republicans to elect Charles Curtis as president.' It is believed that the Republicans will likely follow this advice, and we know that everyone in our fine city wishes Mr.Hoover a speedy recovery.

"Send my condolences to both Hoover and the Republican Party, for this clenches our election!"
-A joke contributed to several Democratic front runners in 1928
For decades after Hoover was injured in that now legendary car crash many historians and political scholars have pondered what type of campaign he would have ran, but what is known for sure is that the removal of the presidential front runner led to such a desperation to win on both sides that the 1928 election is widely considered the dirtiest election in history. Forget 1948's Rockefeller vs Sinclair and forget Truman vs Kennedy, this is the dirtiest election in modern U.S. history.

'My fellow republicans, although I know we are all saddened by the injury of our good friend Herbert I would like you all to know that I will run and win the election to continue the successful programs put in place by President Coolidge and Herbert. You have elected me to continue our success in the presidency and I will do so!'
-Excerpt from Charles Curtis's speech accepting his nomination as the republican candidate alongside Vice-presidential candidate Frank Lowden.
'The republican party has held rule over the nation for the past eight years; but now we can obtain a victory and rule in the interest of the immigrants; in the interest of the downtrodden; we will continue the success but we will also help those who need it most!'
-Excerpt from Al smith's acceptance speech, alongside Vice-presidential candidate Joseph Robinson.
'As soon as the election began both sides immediately begin immediately began taking advantage of the others perceived weakness. Within days of Smiths nomination as democratic candidate several prominent democrats in the KKK agreed to openly support the republican nomination deciding that four years of republican government was better than a catholic in the white house. The anything for a vote book is in fact real although I altered the title somewhat due to changes between time lines. The main difference between the time lines is that Hoover was taken out of the 1928 election by a non-fatal car accident which led to him suggesting the man who he was going to suggest as VP to become the Republican Nominee. The title of the thread should give you a hint who will be the President. I should note that my next post will be much longer, but I wanted to lay the ground work here and expand after I got enough feedback to make sure the idea itself was plausible.
