Hello. Start a thread under the same name in ASB. Threads of similar topics have not gathered much interst since I started to put them in ASB, so I thought I would let people know that it is there

Romans from when? And how many Romans? And which estimate of William the Conqueror's army do we use?

What I'm gathering from this is that he started a thread in the ASB section based on Romans fighting off an invasion of William the Conqueror because this is what he posted in a thread in there

Hello. WHo would win: Romans versus William at HAstings, with an equal number of Romans as there were saxons. THe ROmans are in the same position that the Saxons were, including have to fight the battle against the Vikings a few weeks earlier.

And he wants you all to notice that he started said thread in there by posting in here as an advertisement

No. He's posting here because the Before 1900 forum is more knowledgeable about this stuff. Which is why everyone was posting 'Romans vs Mongols' 'Parthians vs Spanish' etc. before, until they had to be moved to ASB.

EDIT: Well, I don't know why he posted it here because I'm not him, but that's more likely than an advertisement.

Alright, how about a thread hijack? How would it look like if William the Conqueror participated in the Byzantine-Norman Wars?

William is going to have a very, very difficult time convincing the Norman dukes to support this kind of adventure. He had enough trouble getting them to back his invasion of England.

The Normans were kicking ass anyway, at least the Italian kind of Normans. William himself could lead his own men as an ally of Tancred, maybe ;)

If he did find the support, what would his chances be of ever capturing the Queen of Cities?

William was clearly very cunning and a talented general, but the Byzantines were still powerful and the Normans don't have the numbers, organization or equipment necessary for such a titanic endeavor. Not to mention that the Byzantines are going to pull out all the stops in order to halt his advance, weakened as they were at the time.

The Normans attacked the Empire on various occasions from their posessions in Sicily and Italy with varying degrees of success. I don't know if William was any better than the likes of Robert Guiscard or Roger of Sicily or any other of that lot, they were formidable bastards. However the wars more or less ended in stalemate and outside conquest for both sides after over a century.
