After a rather vicious debate, I pose this question to you find and knowledgeable people. Taking into account the technology differences and cultures, did the Roman Empire progress more in its entire history compared to the world since 1945? To give an example, how revolutionary was the creation of their architectural ideas, monetary systems, military tactics, governmental ideas, and infrastructure improvements (relative to the development at the time) compare to the things the modern world has developed since 1945?
If not since 1945, how about since the industrial revolution?

This is a bit unfair, since one of these societies had a printing press, mass literacy, and the scientific method.

Well, Rome is at a distinct disadvantage here due to the scale of the discussion. If we're only taking about the Empire (Although, to give you the benefit of the doubt, let's include the Republic as well), a number of things the Romans spread and developed already existed in some form or another in the societies of the Near or Far East (For example: Egypt's complex beurocracy, irrigation/mass agriculture in Mesopotamia, long-distance trade across Persia and during the Hellenic/Phonecian periods, etc.) The modern world, covering the whole world, gets to include any advance made anywhere.

The world since the industrial revolution gets the win in my book.
