I'm looking to a Roman Industrial Revolution TL. I personally think it is very plausible, if the right pre-Revolution conditions are met.
After sifting through various threads and doing a fair bit of research, it is apparent that you need an Agricultural Revolution and then a Socioeconomic Revolution in the Roman Empire to get an Industrial Revolution.
So basically, how could the Roman Empire develop a banking system up to the task of an IR?
I'm aware that Roman Numerals need to be completely revamped; this is kinda the first step. Maybe the Romans could use the Hindu-Arabic system, but use Roman numbers instead (see attached image). How developed was the H-A Numeral system 1st Century AD?
Hopefully the pic makes sense .
