Rocket science in Imperial Japan

Assume Nazi Germany quickly loses war due to certain conditions.
How plausible would it be for Japan to notice potential of rocket science and shelter German scientists out of work-note that Germany is not occupied like in OTL so no Allies grabbing German scientists.
What was the level of rocket science in Japan and is it possible Japanese military may be interested in its development to reach potential targets in USA in future war ?

Japan did have a tactical rocket program, but no strategic program. Not that it would have helped. The German V-2 was only designed to reach Britain, not cross the Atlantic. The Pacific is much bigger still. In OTL it took the Soviets until the late 50s to accomplish this and their pre-war rocket program was as advanced as Germany's, certainly far more advanced than Japan's.

Besides the V-2 rocket program was a giant waste of money. It cost more than the Manhattan Project and accomplished next to nothing.
