So, I just watched Outlaw King and it brought back my love of Robert the Bruce- the man was a fucking don, alright!- and one thing I wondered was this: He married Elizabeth de Burgh in 1302, and yet their first child wasn't born until the 1310s, now obviously for a period of time Elizabeth was a prisoner of the English and Robert was on the run and fighting, so no children there. But why weren't there any children born between 1302 and 1306?
If there had been children, or perhaps a child born in that period, let's say 1303, what would the consequences have been? Especially if that child were a boy. I imagine that if Elizabeth is still captured, that the boy would be taken with her, and then perhaps separated as Marjorie was, would Edward I have the kid killed?
If, Elizabeth managed to escape, and find her way somewhere else in Scotland alongside her son, step daughter and perhaps one of Robert's brothers, what would this change?
