Robert of Artois, finally gets artois

Not sure how plausible this is, but say during the reign of Philip VI of France, Robert of Artois, managed to find the documents proving his right to claim the county of Artois from his aunt Mahaut, and he had presented them to the court and the King, and say Philip had given his brother in law precisely what he wanted. What would the consequences have been?

As I understand it the Flemish nobles preferred Mahaut to the more Frenchified Robert hence why they supported her right under "tradition". Phillip desiring to avoid a Flanders civil war accepted her and compensated Robert with another county.
If Phillip instead backs Robert then he'll end up invading and it's unclear where things could end up.

Oh that’s interesting, roberts perjury and forging of documents didn’t help him either. I do wonder how things could’ve changed had his old man Philip survived

Well, it likely guarantees his succession.
Also has interesting effects on the Breton Succession War - Robert switched his allegiance to Edward and gained Richmond as his mother was sister of Arthur II of Brittany and Earl John of Richmond.
Another French loyalist, which Robert would probably remain, could tip things against Montfort and change the HYW.

Oh interesting, though would there be a war at all in the wider context, as wasn’t Robert the one who initiated the whole searching of the tour de nestle affair?

The WBS was inevitable really considering Montfort.
How important was Nestle as a ignition point for restarting the HYW?

This is true, and in the scale it did? Perhaps quite, after all it did contribute to no women inheriting, and that all shindig. The war was inevitable I agree, but the succession part of it perhalsmless so?
