Rise for the Kingfish

"I hope very much to be able to come down here next winter, and to see all of you, and to have another enjoyable ten days or two weeks in Florida waters. Many thanks."

As Franklin Roosevelt stepped down from the back seat of his Buick, five shots were able to be heard in the night. Giuseppe Zangara, a 32 year old bricklayer had shot the President-Elect. After being elected on a promise of reviving the economy, FDR was riding a wave of popularity into office. At least, he was supposed to be. On the morning of February 16th, Roosevelt died from injuries sustained by the gunshots. It was now up to the Vice President-Elect, John Nance Garner, to run the country and guide the American through the Great Depression. On March 4th, he was officially sworn in as the 32nd President.
