Richtofen survives WW1, 100+ victories

What if any role would the Red Baron play in Germany Post Versailes had he lived.

I am assuming that his number of combat victories would go up if he had lived longer.

I am fairly sure the butterflies Goering as a political figure.

I suspect that there would be pressure on him to use his celebrety to 'save' Germany

My guess is that he becomes a rather more conventional reactionary ruler.

He gets Austria, Sudeten land and Danzig but does not try to conquer Europe.

Any other thougths.

This idea has appeared in a few time lines in the past where he was a player right enough which I would suspect would be the case. However I don't see the butterflying of Goering as a political figure. I would see the Nazi's doing there best to get him on side and fail

I personally don't think Ricthofen would have gone into politics. From everything I've read about the man, he thought of himself as a simple soldier.
I think he would have stayed in the military and definitely would have been one of the few men Von Seekt would have selected to serve in the much smaller post war Army.

I believe he would have kept abreast of military aircraft development in other countries and may have even become some kind of air force spymaster.
Richthofen himself would be too famous to be a spy but I could imagine him recruiting Goering and Udet even his brother Lothar (which would butterfly away his death in 1922) to travel to other countries on goodwill missions while doing a bit of spying on the side.

I could even see Goering going to Russia under the secret "Rapallo treaty" imagine the butterflies caused by Hitler having a right hand man with firsthand knowledge of the Soviet Union.
This could be an interesting TL, I would read it. :)

This makes me wonder if it butterflies the selection of Udet, & so the mania for dive-bombing.

OTOH, does it butterfly the fighter doctrine? Does it mean more emphasis on ACM? Does it mean the Me-110 is never even proposed? Or does it lead to a German version of the A6M?

Strangely enough...

...In my original HMS Heligoland TL he crash-lands and is made a POW till the war ends. Then he goes east to Manchuria, saves Marshal Zhang Zuolin from being assassinated by Japan and works up his air force. Butterflies of butterflies...

...But I see him giving Hitler the same dusty answer as Paul Von Lettow-Vorbeck, who famously (see wiki) gave Hitler the brush-off, and I quote :-

During the 1960s, Charles Miller asked the nephew of a Schutztruppe officer, "I understand that von Lettow told Hitler to go fuck himself." The nephew responded, "That's right, except that I don't think he put it that politely."

So there you are...;)
