In case you're wondering, this is what I'm referring to: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/RichardNixonTheUsedCarSalesman
For those not in the know, Richard Nixon The Used Care Salesman is a trope in alternate history where a famous figure in OTL is obscure, has a different occupation or otherwise different life in ATL. Like "The Iron Dream" where its a sci-fi story by Adolf Hitler in a universe he emigrated to the U.S in 1919 and writes science fiction. Often what they do is a reference to things they actually did or thought of doing IOTL.
The only rule for this is for the POD to have taken place at some point after the used care salesman has been conceived, as they probably wouldn't exist if it was before. Other than that, have some fun. Here's my example
Woodrow Wilson in OTL was the 29th President. However in "President Hamlin", where Lincoln was assassinated in 1864 and Hamlin managed to get re-elected then oversaw a different Reconstruction, Wilson was a pioneer of the alternate history genre. This is a reference to how, IOTL, Wilson was a historian. His first book was "One Nation Under The Crown" in 1883, which imagined a world where the American Revolution failed and America remains under the British Empire. Though pioneering the genre and a good read, it has gotten some criticism for the writer's prejudice, some plausibility issues and focusing too much on Wilson's state. Wilson's masterpiece, released on what would have been Lincoln's 100th birthday, is "Seeing the Union Through". A DBWI in that it tells what would happen if Lincoln survived in 1864, serving his second term in full and how that influences politics 40 years afterwards
