Richard de la Pole was the son of John de la Pole, 2nd Duke of Suffolk and his wife Elizabeth of York, who was the sister of both Edward IV and Richard III. Richard's brother John, Earl of Lincoln had been named Richard's heir before Bosworth, and as such was part of the Battle of Stoke in 1487, whilst his other brother Edmund tried to claim the throne unsuccessfully. Now in 1514, Richard was given 12,000 mercenaries and was stationed in Brittany preparing to invade England to claim the throne, however, England and France made peace and the invasion never materialised. What would it take for the invasion to actually materialise, and who might be tempted to side with Richard?
