Could Rhenish Nationalism have survived Nazi persecution, and could there have been a reason for the Rhineland to have been split after the war? Maybe if the Allies wanted to weaken Germany for some reason or another? (Maybe the Soviets don't get so far, or even arrive at Germany at all.) I don't quite understand why they couldn't have split some German regions off (like Bavaria) as they did in Austria, because they could have always force those separate regions to work militarily together in NATO anyway, without them needing to be in one country together.
