The PoD here is that John McCain wins the Presidency in 2008, and actually lives out the whole four years. During this time, the economy has worsened, although not as much as it would have thanks to the Democratic-controlled Congress (althought the 2010 midterms left the Republicans only 11 seats away from a majority in the House). The unemployment rate is at 12%. Osama bin Laden remains at large in the Middle East. The proposed cuts to government programs such as SS, Medicare, and Medicaid are still on the table, only barely being blocked from passage by the Democrats. Don't Ask, Don't Tell is still in effect for the military. The price of gas is almost five dollars a gallon. Just a few snippets of the alternate world. And now the year is 2011. Time for the Democrats to begin the long-anticipated selection of their Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates for 2012. With the Obama/Biden ticket having lost in '08, which of the candidates in the above poll would you support for president?

John McCain dies on July 21, 2011 after suffering a major heart attack. On August 16, 2011, President Sarah Palin shocks the nation by announcing that she will not be seeking her party's nomination for President in 2012. The Republican field is torn wide open as a plethora of shocked and optomistic candidates scramble to launch campaigns to secure the suddenly-open nomination.

One problem with the OP.The information that lead to OBL was gathered in the final months of Bush's term. So, either way OBL was going to die.

John McCain said that he would never go into Pakistan. So OBL is snug as a bug in a rug, living up the good life while he fools the rest of us into thinking that he is roughing it in a cave.
