OTOH, with the Germans not bombing Britain could make for Lend Lease Act.not passing. Having Edward R Murrow reporting from London on calm skies over England doesn't really ramp up sympathy for the UK, right after reports of the RN whacking the French fleet at Mers-el-Kebir

The attack at Mers-el-Kebir actually increased support for Britain at the time, with it being seen as a sign that they weren't going to give in to the Nazis.

Several establishment figures, including those in the US, believed it was a hopeless fight before the Battle of Britain had begun. Nazis had their fortress in Europe and the UK couldn't reach it.
