Return of Roman Aqueducts

Could medieval monarchs/lords/viziers et al in the former Roman Empire be moved more to rebuild its old aqueducts to provide water for growing towns and cities, especially if they are near or atop former Roman equivalents? Might this result in more than one being functional in the present day?

This kind of infrastructure project favors relatively unified polities. Having your water supplied via aqueduct leaves you vulnerable during a siege in a way that digging a well doesn't necessarily.

But also means your shitting where your water is collected, leading to contamination and diseases like typhus etc.
