Maybe they're trying to accurately recreate the thinking of the United States during that time.
No, no, no, if that was the case, the entire map except for Moscow (and Moscow only) would just be labeled America.
Latin America then, with the exception of Cuba, should be all blue. So should South Korea and Vietnam.
Even if they got the alliances correct, there's the problem that allegiances shifted during those 44 years.
Why is Taiwan in the Third World?
Why isn’t Israel aligned with the US?
Also, wasn’t Yugoslavia unaligned as well? And I’m pretty sure that there were plenty of countries in Africa that were aligned with either the United States or the USSR.
Let the Chinese also participate in this thread!
So instead of forks I'll go and prepare some chopsticks if any eye-gouging is warranted.
well, that's one way to solve the Kashmir dispute.
Boy, they REALLY made a mess of the former Soviet Union. Mongolia's not looking too good, either. Weird that the countries closest to China seem to have been screwed up the worst.
So, Korea united, Ukraine lost not just Crimea but more to Russia, which has also re-absorbed the Baltic States, Slovenia seems to have sunk into the Adriatic...and the colour scheme is weird - I can't see a link between the countries which are all the same colour, but there are neighbouring countries the same colour as each other, so it's not to clearly show boundaries either!
Not only them.
Germany seems to have annexed the Netherlands and it visibly has a border with Italy, while Austria has an Adriatic coast which looks suspiciously like they forgot Slovenia (although the entire Balkans is a bit 'blobby')
And Cyprus is a Turkish peninsula.
Just to name a few.
Come to think of it, I had to shrink the map a bit to get the filesize small enough. the original is here:
Togo has been sunk.
Spain still has Spanish Sahara, I see.
"Without Eyadéma to hold back the waters, Togo was claimed by the sea."
Also, Djibouti has been annexed by Ethiopia, for some reason.
I see that Burma, Nepal, and Taiwan have once more been relegated to tributary states.
Also these people used the six-colour theorum and somehow still failed miserably. I'm actually impressed.
Also, the Caucasian countries appear to have disappeared.
just found this in wikipedia
I thought "that doesn't look too bad, given the resolution...WTF HAPPENED TO CENTRAL ASIA?"
With the breakup of the Soviet Union, etc. the countries at the beginning of the time period and those at the end differed. It looks like they took a 1970s map (note the two Germanies) and just drew some boundaries in Central Asia. (which at this size consists of Kazakhstan and not-Kazakhstan)...
