Retrospective US Presidential Election Results Thread

Awesome job, Tim. When this project is over, I should make a comprehensive list of presidents in Wiki-form like that.

You should have voted in those elections -- Debs beat Taft in 1908 by only 2 votes. Bear in mind that a lot of what was considered radical in US politics back then is just common sense these days.

Actually some of their positions are still very radical, I dont think there is any (major) party right now arguing for all industrial work to be nationalized and put under the control of unions. Although half of the reason I like Debs is for his radical ideas so there is that.

How interesting that we now have President Burton K. Wheeler elected by AH.COM! I assume that's where our mod got ?her? name from?

Unfortunately we didn't elect him. He was just the VP that succeeded a President that died in office. We need to wait for something else.

Of course, if we elect Wendell Willkie in 1940, this list idea will be broken. Willkie and his VP (McNary) both die in 1944, and we have no idea who Willkie's Secretary of State would be.

im disappointed that we dont have the option to vote for second terms for alot of alt potus

Yeah that would be cool. I vote that the winner gets added to the list of candidates for the next term if they're still alive. If not then add the vice-president instead.

The odds are that FDR will take 1940 in a landslide, but on the off chance that Willkie wins, I'm sure I can rely on AH.com to come up with the most likely appointee for Secretary of State in a Willkie administration.

In fact, let's all do this, just so DJC can hold a de facto "special election" for the post of Willkie's Secretary of State.

No, this is not ATL Presidential Election, its Retrospective. Which in and of its self means that its basically a redo of the original, which means it needs the same candidates.

I know, but I don't see how that would hurt, just adds a few more candidates to the running each election that could have been running anyway with the help of a butterfly.

But why isn't "I want to play with the Presidential Succession Act!" as valid as any other reason for voting for someone? ;)

Isn't that how McCain got most of his votes in the last election?

A series of alternate elections based on previous retrospective elections whose results differed from OTL could be done (and in fact was something I considered), though it would be a spinoff of this project rather than directly part of it. That is, I couldn't run a retrospective election with different candidates than in OTL, as it would defeat the purpose of project.

I imagine it's how McCain lost a lot of votes. If he were to croak, we'd have President Palin. <shudder>
