Retrospective US Presidential Election: 2000

Vote in the 2000 Retrospective US Presidential Election!

  • Total voters
    160
  • Poll closed .
I plan to run through every US presidential election, two per week. The 28 elections from 1789-1896 will be run simultaneously with the 28 elections from 1900-2008. Be sure to vote in each election!

For 1789-1800, I will include in the poll everyone who received at least 5% of the electoral vote. From 1804-2008, I will include everyone who received at least 0.05% of the popular vote. Results for each election will be posted on the dedicated Retrospective US Presidential Election Results Thread (here) and compared to the actual results. The thread for general project discussion is here.

Here's the link to the 1888 election.

Nader for a ban on nuclear power!
Nader for a near total disbanding of the entire military!
Nader for a ban on GMOs!

Yeah, not going to be voting for Nader. Nope, nope, nope. Voted for Al Gore in the poll.

Will hold out on this one.

Nader if Bush looks headed for second place.
Hagelin otherwise. Because he deserves at least one vote.

The 2000 Democratic platform, for those interested.

It's amazing how far right the Dems had moved. This is basically a generic conservative manifesto with some tidbits about opposing tax cuts for the rich and supporting vague "Universal Health Coverage". Oh, and some more rational defence policy.

I challenge you to read the last paragraph in the "Battling Terrorism" section without either laughing or banging your head on your keyboard.

Still the best of a bad lot.

I may not like Nader but I'll take him over Al Gore any day. There is only one left wing candidate in this rate, and even though he's not the best choice I have to pick him.

Abolishing the military? Ludditism? Supporting ideological opponents rather than people with similar beliefs over some idea of "shaking the system" rather than actually trying to institute good policies and government? I'm sorry, Nader's just bad news all around. Gore 2000.

Don't forget the union busting.

I admit, having worked very briefly for PIRG, I may be biased, but fuck Ralph Nader.
