Retrospective US Presidential Election: 1812

Vote in the 1812 Retrospective US Presidential Election!

  • Total voters
    89
  • Poll closed .
I plan to run through every US presidential election, two per week. The 28 elections from 1789-1896 will be run simultaneously with the 28 elections from 1900-2008. Be sure to vote in each election!

For 1789-1800, I will include in the poll everyone who received at least 5% of the electoral vote. From 1804-2008, I will include everyone who received at least 0.05% of the popular vote. Results for each election will be posted on the dedicated Retrospective US Presidential Election Results Thread (here) and compared to the actual results. The thread for general project discussion is here.

Here's the link to the 1924 election.

This is the point where I take my leave from the Federalists.

Madison, Free Trade, and Sailors' Rights!

In order of preference:

1) Rufus King (got my vote, the only true Federalist in the race)

2) James Monroe (more Federalist than Clinton)

3) DeWitt Clinton (really has no platform, not really a Federalist)

This is where I take my leave from the Republicans: when they were trying to get us into a completely unnecessary and wasteful war with England, after the Federalists had already been rebuked for the pernicious and dangerous Sedition Act. Now - now, we can safely have a Federalist in office.

Come on, folks; don't split the Federalist vote! Elect Rufus King, the antislavery activist!

This is like a total black hole of interest. This is unprecedented. Usually I have an opinion on anything. But here, it's like a wide open field of "meh" beyond the previous boundaries I thought "meh" could reach.

Hmm. I liked Bill Clinton. So I go DeWitt.

Hmmm...Who should I vote for? Someone convince me...I'm leading Madison because he has a very presidential name.

It's funny that in 1808, the Democratic-Republican vote was divided between two candidates, allowing the Federalist to win, whereas now the Federalist vote is split, giving the Dem-Rep the lead. Ah, fate, you amuse me....

VOTE, GODDAMMIT!!!

;)
