Retrospective US Presidential Election: 1800

Vote in the 1800 Retrospective US Presidential Election!

  • Total voters
    118
  • Poll closed .
I plan to run through every US presidential election, two per week. The 28 elections from 1789-1896 will be run simultaneously with the 28 elections from 1900-2008. Be sure to vote in each election!

For 1789-1800, I will include in the poll everyone who received at least 5% of the electoral vote. From 1804-2008, I will include everyone who received at least 0.05% of the popular vote. Results for each election will be posted on the dedicated Retrospective US Presidential Election Results Thread (here) and compared to the actual results. The thread for general project discussion is here.

Here's the link to the 1912 election.

Hm...did Burr actually advocate women's suffrage, as the Wiki page says? That part is unsourced, but it's been there for a while, so...

Apparently he kept a picture of Mary Wollstonecraft above his fireplace, so I wouldn't be surprised. That and the fact that he was hardline anti-slavery swung my vote. When compared to two slave-owners and an authoritarian he seems like the only choice.

Jefferson. After the Alien and Sedition Acts, I can't vote Adams despite my Federalist leanings. Jefferson is the best of the group. Burr sucks btw.

AARON BURR - Unscrupulous politician. Wouldn't trust him with any public office outside the legislature (where he could be watched). (He later confirmed this impression by probably conspiring with Spain to set up an independent dictatorship.)
CHARLES COTESWORTH PICKNEY - Opposed abolition of the slave trade. That tells me all I need to know, but he also opposed popular election of the House.
JOHN ADAMS - supported the Alien and Sedition Acts. He needs to go, at least to set a precedent.
THOMAS JEFFERSON - is the last candidate standing. His OTL record is decent, at least, despite his slaveholding.

Didn't like Jefferson last time, I won't be voting for him this time/ I'd have went with Burr but he is too corrupt to trust with power. Adams it is.

It's close! I voted Jefferson, because he historically is a great President but I wouldn't be let down by an Adams victory.

I recognized all four names, but I couldn't remember a thing about Burr or Pickney, and I didn't want to vote for John Adams because if I did I'd have 1776 stuck in my head.

So I voted for Jefferson.

Burr because he's (a) a closet federalist who was in favor of the Bank and of internal improvements; (b) an ardent opponent of slavery; and (c) favored women's suffrage.

Yeah, he did. He was also extremely devoted to his daughter and wanted girls to get a good quality education as much as boys.

Unrelated: Anyone know what, if any, effect presidential selection will have on the Louisiana Purchase?

Probably at most the amount of hands-wringing the president will have over its Constitutionality.

Alright, so I'm proud to give him my vote. :)

Jefferson, despite the issue of slavery. Everyone but John Adams. If he is reelected, our civil liberties would be finished. Down with the Alien and Sedition Acts, down with President Adams!
