and regular massive riots, also starvation in the lower classes and they can't vote so no one cares about them we saw this in the 1800s in the US and UK. workers had no rights, lots of rioting of the 4 US Presidents to be murdered 3 were between 1865 and 1901, all 3 for political reasons

That's... not necessarily an argument against what he's talking about, seeing as how the US had universal adult male suffrage in every election after 1828.

That said, the existence of the Chartist movement and the general unrest that the UK kept barely in check between 1832 and 1900 should suggest that the idea of a limited franchise is still a terrible idea.

Wait, Kai Sheik is a benevolent dictater now? I'm mean, he's no Mao but he was still a pretty terrible person/

After Chiang (yes, his surname is Chiang) retreated to Taiwan, he finally implemented reforms which he had planned to introduce after he had won the civil war. But ironically it was because he had delayed these reforms that he lost the mainland. He definitely could be considered a benevolent dictator (somewhat like the modern day Communists in the mainland) after the KMT fled to Taiwan, though.

And the 140,000 killed in the White Terror? The 228 incident? The suppression of Taiwanese culture? The 38 years of martial law?

Southern Rhodesia did have black voters, as voting rights were based on property ownership and not ethnicity. There weren't very many black voters but Ian Smith could speak Shona to campaign and address those black voters who were Mashona. In addition blacks could attain high political office. My wife's father was the only black cabinet minister in Ian Smith's Rhodesian Front Government (he was Governor of Mashonaland Province, which was a Cabinet Position and he was also a Mashona tribal chief).

BTW my wife's uncle Cephas Msipe is currently Governor of Midlands Province and a ZANU PF Cabinet Minister.
