Restored Saxon and Bavarian monarchies.

During the immediate post-war years, from what I've read, the Kings of Saxony and Bavaria were quite popular. What would have happened had in the 1920s, the people of Bavaria and Saxony had revolted against the Weimar Republic and restored their monarchies? Would this have led to a war, would the allies have gotten involved?

Would this have involved Saxony and Bavaria declaring independence or their assemblies voting for monarchies? And I think the French would be happy for this, as it would mean Catholic states breaking off from the north. Well, semi-Catholic. It would however mean Protestants getting more influence in the rump area, which was still most the Prussian Free State. Also would be the issue of the French occupation of Saar, as a portion of that was Bavarian Palantine.

Hmm, I'm not sure, a part of me wants to say the first, but the latter seems like it would have more favourable consequences for the two Kingdoms. Which would make more sense?

Is on the way - at least you can get a very tasty beer in Germany - Radeberger - which claims it was the favourite beer of King Friedrich III of Saxony and has his coat of arms on their label :)

Anyway, I guess it would be possible for each of the Länder in a German Union to have its own head of state, some of which could be royal, others not. Who represents the union could be put on a time schedule like the EU chairmanship. So one year it is King Friedrich, the next Landespräsidentin Biedermeyer etc...

Interesting, though I was thinking more that they operate outside of the Weimar Republic as independent states

It would be a confusing time. I there would be people for and against either option, but trying to go independent might upset socialists, democrats, German nationalists, etc. Might also have issues if Palatine or portions of Swanian or Bayruth Bavaria don't want to go independent or monarchist. Or if some Saxons suggest they regain Prussian Saxony. I doubt it, though. It would just be expansions who are gagged prevent invasion who would do that. And actually, I have an idea. Maybe the Entente don't make it so that a democratic government did the Versailles thing? It immediately tarnished them. Instead having the Prussian Junker's, military elite, etc might help discredit the Prussians a bit, though it might have the side effect of making monarchist things less appealing. Might have it that some groups decide to have a King and Prince, but no minor aristocrat's, but it was the aristocracy who would support the monarchies so often. Well, when the Kings didn't try helping the common man. In the Asylum they go with Ludwig. Though they did that because of budget reasonss.... Hmm.
