Republicans successful in Australia Republic Referendum, plausibility of Tasmanian secession?

If the Australian Republic Referendum had succeeded in favor of the Republicans, could Tasmania, which was second most anti-Republican in the referendum, have a prevalent independence movement emerge leading to a secession referendum sometime in the late 2000s or early 2010s? Tasmanian seccessionism was considered by two Tasmanian premiers in the 1980s.

No.

The republic was at best a third order issue in the minds of most people, probably on par with changing the flag i.e. a symbolic change that is nothing to get too miffed about.

Also, there is no constitutional way for a state to secede.

Economically it doesn't make much sense, with the lowest population growth and second highest unemployment rate amongst the states.

Finally, for every dollar that Tasmania contributes federally, they receive $1.58 in return in services and benefits. It's doubtful anyone would give that up.

State premiers and 'prominent' businessmen bring up secession in tough economic times. It costs them nothing, shows they have state pride and gets them a bit of good state press. Nothing ever comes of it.

Source, thank you ...

I'd also like to note I spent the 1980s at King Island District High School, Launceston Community College and the University of Tasmania (including a bunch of student politics). I think I'd have noticed a secessionist movement ...

Based on what other people have said, Tasmania’s problems wouldn’t be solved by secession. Low population growth, a shitty employment situation, a dependence on federal subsidies, a population that feels marginalized - Tasmania is basically Australia’s version of West Virginia, and anyone in West Virginia who suggests seceding from the US will probably be asked if they’re feeling all right.
