Republican FDR?

I read in a biography of FDR that in 1904, he voted for his distant relative Theodore Roosevelt for President which is probably the only time in his life that he voted for a Republican (he did marry TR's niece Eleanor).

What would be an appropriate POD for FDR to become a Republican? And what political success would he have if he ran for office as one?

You'll have to make the Hyde Park Roosevelts Republicans. He got his affiliation from his father. Or, his dad has to die early and his Grandpa, a big time Republican has to be his caretaker.
Remember, from the Progressive Era to the Civil Rights Era, there were substantial liberal, conservative and moderate wings in each party.

No. He did follow TR's path, but the thing is, his father was a Democrat. He came from the Democratic part of his family, so he was a Democrat. He wasn't really a Democrat by choice, he was a Democrat by birth.
