Replacing Kaiser Wilhelm?

Hey guys, so I am in the process of writing a alternate history that revolves around an alternate WW1 (nothing substantial yet, not another Kaiserreich story but it could go that way). But I had a thought, given that Kaiser Wilhelm was...to say the least...a nut, was there a feasible way short of disease or alien space bats to have Kaiser Wilhelm II replaced before the First World War?

Let him caught some disease like pneumonia. Then his son would succeed him. Or was there anything assassination attempts against der Kaiser just before WW1?

On the 20 year anniversary of the acquisition of German Cameroon (1904), Wilhelm II visits the colony and promptly gets malaria. Then dies.

16. November 1900, try Selma Schnapka to kill Wilhelm II with axe during visit in Breslau.

Wilhelm II was the subject of an assassination attempt in Bremen, Germany. On March 6, 1901.
as worker Johann Diedrich Weiland drop a iron gusset plate on him, hitting Wilhelm II. face at cheekbone.

He doesn't survive his badly botched birth? Alternatively it goes well and he doesn't have the psychological problems his withered arm left him with.

He catches diphtheria from his brother Waldemar in 1879. The remaining brother, Henry, becomes heir to the throne.
Henry by all accounts was nothing like his brother. There probably wouldn't even be a World War or at least one that involved Germany.

Everyone can die at every time.
Zu Kaiser Wilhelms Zeiten, it was even easier than today.
Just pick a convenient time, and let an appendicitis, aneurysm, stroke, random germ or something else take him.
It only starts to get complicated, if you need to take out too many (heirs) in to short a time.

As I said the simplest way to achieve having a different Kaiser is for him not to survive his birth. Hardly an unusual occurrence at the time, even in the very highest levels of society, and his birth was badly handled by the attending doctor.

Sure, thats always the easiest to get rid of someone, but that puts your POD more than half a decade before your target era (1859).

If you want Heinrich as heir (pre 1882), your still over twenty years before OTL WWI.
I'm only saying, that the time of Wilhelms removal only depends on the timeline someone wants to write. Why restricting this freedom unnecessarily?

Excellent choice. The nice thing is that you can simply pick the year of his trip, and have him die on the schedule needed for an ATL. And with a disease, it avoids all the nasty issues associated with a violent death. Much like Teddy Roosevelt went to the Amazon, and never was healthy again, the Kaiser can take a trip to promote the greatness of Germany, and fade into the memory. IMO, if he dies before WW1, he has a good chance of being remember as a generally good leader who died tragically.

You would also have to get rid of those who actually drove German foreign policy (hint, not Willy), the anti German elements in the British leadership and press, and the military hawks in France, Russia and Serbia.

Or like Lord Carnarvon gets an infected razor cut that kills him. It's very easy to die from that sort of thing before Antibiotics are developed. Even if you survive the infection it could so damage your immune system that the next cold you catch finishes you off.

That is another interesting POD. And with a linger period of sickness, you can also create a Germany with effectively no Kaiser for a period of a few years.

"Kaiser in a Coma" sounds like a great tittle for a TL

Yea, it does. It would also allow for one to just remove the negative effects of the the Kaiser on the leadup to WW1. In most POD, we have as much impact from the replacement, but with a disabled Kaiser, Germany will limp to war based on consensus German decision making. I have a sneaking suspicion that most German leaders would have support their long-term ally in war over an assassination of the crown prince.
