Removal of the US reservation system

What would be a good way to remove the reservation system in the USA without a collapse of the federal government or an extremist government? How would it affect Natives living in the US?

It would be a mixed bag either way.

It would kill what was left of native society.. It would force integration, Americans for the most part were not anti American Native

The largest hurdle is integrating the influx of people. In 2 or three generations what they were begins to vanish. I would spin it the other way and make it pre 1900

What if the US set up these lands as untouchable autonomous regions . Including Oklahoma and the desert southwest which is vital today to the US.

The native populations got screwed and more over the years.

If you were to remove the reservation system, the monetary pay out cost would be mind blowing.

We literally stole an entire nation. Then genocided the native populations.

Granted it's been a while . But not that long. Its still pretty recent history.

All I can say is if you remove the reservation system prior to 1970, it would be ugly . If you remove it between 1970 and 1990 . Gray has shades .
After 1990 . Its going to cost money . And lots of it

Noway to cut it. Americ would look even worse for destroying what was left and breaking ever deal including reservations

Don't know about the other nations/reservations; my sister in law just finished several years as a attorney for the Navajo Nation. She explained the NN had been for decades purchasing land adjacent to the reservation & incorporating it into a Navajo National Trust. While technically not part of the reservation this land is integrated into the Navajo economy. This suggests at least one group of Native Americans would be reluctant to abandon the system hastily in recent history
