Reliving The Magic-A Washington Wizards Timeline

Introduction

NBA Commissioner David Stern comes out onto the stage to announce each of the following picks:

“With the 6th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, the Washington Wizards select...Klay Thompson, Shooting Guard from Washington State University.”

“With the 11th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, the Golden State Warriors select...Kawhi Leonard, Small Forward from San Diego State University.”

“With the 18th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, the Washington Wizards select...Kenneth Faried, Power Forward from Morehead State University.”

“With the 34th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, the Washington Wizards select...Chandler Parsons, Small Forward from University of Florida.”

Author’s Notes:
This TL will be taking the Washington Wizards into one of the top teams of the NBA. The POD is them redrafting in the 2011 NBA Draft. I include the Leonard pick as the Warriors get a compensation for losing Klay. The seasons will probably break up the regular season and postseason into two or maybe three updates, depending on what happens during said season. But yeah, I look forward to this one and it should be fun.

Wizardswank? Sounds kind of interesting. The players they drafted are good but they are only rookies. I expect them to better than OTL of course but I don't see them making the playoffs. Maybe their second year they will get closer or they could get the 8th seed.

The 2011 NBA Season

“The 2011 Season sucked. It sucked, because we sucked until the All Star Break. Not only that, that damn lockout happened.”

Wizards Point Guard John Wall

The 2011 NBA Season didn’t officially start until Christmas that year. The league went on a lockout due to the 2005 CBA expiring, and the negotiations of a new one were tricky to say the least.

“It was horrible. I finally come into the NBA, get drafted in the top 10, and next thing I know the season might be cancelled all together because of the CBA negotiations.”

Wizards Shooting Guard Klay Thompson

The players couldn’t access the team facilities, trainers or staffs. Essentially they had to sit at home, waiting for it to end. The lockout would finally end on December 8th, which caused Opening Day to be Christmas. The same day the new CBA would be agreed upon, more news shocked the NBA.

“The New Orleans Hornets have traded Point Guard Chris Paul to the Los Angeles Lakers.”

SportsCenter Transcript

The Los Angeles Lakers would buff up their roster, by acquiring Paul in a trade, which ended up sending Forward Pau Gasol to the Rockets and Lamar Odom to the Hornets. Even with losing these two players, the Lakers quickly turned into everyone’s favorite to win the NBA Title.

“It just seemed unfair, honestly. First we have to deal with the Heat’s Big 3 in our own division, let alone conference, then the West has Kobe [Bryant] and Chris [Paul] in the same backcourt. I’d reenact what my reaction to the news was, but it’ll probably get censored.” Laughter

Wizards Point Guard John Wall

The beginning of the new 66 game season was rough for the Wizards. They wouldn’t win their first game until January 8th against the Minnesota Timberwolves. They would sit in at 1-7, looking like one of the league’s worst teams.

Compilation of Wizards’ players missing shots, turning the ball over, fouling and cut to the bench looking angry in their January 6th loss to the New York Knicks.

The Wizards would make it to the All Star break sitting in at 9-24, as none of their players would make the All Star Team. None of their players would be invited to the 3 Point Contest or the Dunk Contest. The Team would fire Head Coach Flip Saunders during the break.

“It was a shame. He only coached for that season, and my Rookie Season, but still I liked the guy, but we weren’t winning games, so he was fired.”

Wizards Point Guard John Wall

“The game back after the All Star Break. We faced, I think the Bucks. That’s where I think it all started, how we finally began to gel together as a team.”

Wizards Shooting Guard Klay Thompson

“Wall dribbling the ball down court, the Bucks are up 68-60 here in the start of the 3rd Quarter. Wall, crosses over drives down the lane, kicks it out to Thompson...for 3!”

“Wall kicks it to Parsons, Parsons pump fake, gives it back to Wall who kicks it over to the corner to Thompson...another 3!”

“Wall drives down the lane, another kickout to Parsons...another 3 for the Wizards!”

Cut to the Scoreboard reading Wizards 108 Bucks 98

“Believe it or not, that’s one of the few Regular Season games I can remember clear as day. The only reason was I went on Twitter following the game, and people were all over me saying ‘Only 8 Points?’ And I got confused because I finished with 17 assists, 3 shy of the team’s record.”

Wizards Point Guard John Wall

The team’s March 18th game vs. the Memphis Grizzlies would be another showcase of Wall and the Rookies combination.

“Parsons drives towards the hoop, passes it into the corner to Thompson, for 3, bang!”

“Wall dribbling down the court, pulls up, for 3!”

“Parsons in the corner for 3, it’s good!”

"Thompson's 3 misses, but Faried slams it back in! Wow what a put back slam!"

“Wall another 3...bang!”

“That game I finished with, what was it 45? Following any game, I always check Twitter, now everyone was calling me a ball hog since I only had 4 assists. I told Klay ‘Our fans confuse me.’ And we both laughed at it.”

Wizards Point Guard John Wall

The Wizards would finish the game shooting 20-39 from behind the arc, giving them an easy victory over the Grizzlies.

The Wizards seemed to have turned themselves around following the All Star Break, as at the end of March they would have a record of 23-28 going a stretch of 14-4. They were starting to make a push for the playoffs as the 8th Seed.

“Of Course we had belief. We were one of the hottest teams in the league. At the end of March, we were about 2 games behind the 76ers for the 8th Seed. We were feeling confident that we would take that spot.”

Wizards Shooting Guard Klay Thompson

“Wall down the lane for the lay up, a foul and...it’ll just miss as Wall is down.”

Cut to John Wall on the ground grasping his knee.

“This doesn’t look good for him. He is still down on the ground and still clutching his leg as medical staff are coming over to take a look at him.”

Replay shows Wall coming down onto Amir Johnson’s foot and his leg buckles out from underneath him.

“It was a gut punch. We were the hottest team and nearly into the playoffs and then our starting Point Guard tears his ACL on a mundane play.”

Wizards Shooting Guard Klay Thompson

Without Wall, the Wizards struggled to remain as hot as they were in the month of March. They would only win 6 more games after his injury, ending the season at 30-36, being 5 games behind the final playoff spot.

Author's Notes:
So here's the first season. I decided to keep the lockout since, it was easier to go off that schedule for what I had planned for the team. I decided to have the CP3 trade not to be vetoed to make things a lot more interesting for the West. Future updates will be longer, since the seasons will be 82 games instead of 66 and I'll include more signature wins. But I think it was a good first season, and the playoffs will be up either later today or tomorrow.

Author's Notes:

So I decided to have the NBA finals themselves a seperate post, so I'll have more things to work with. My idea is to have highlights of every game instead of just scores and important events like I had for the rest of the playoffs. So first postseason is up, and the Finals will be up soon as well.
