Inspired from this, which have a red revolution in the US in the early 1930s.
So thinking about what could start a communist revolution in the US, I came up with an alternate scenario.
When WW1 occures, Imperial Germany first assist the Austrians against Serbia so the Austrians have only one front to take care off, have the Romanians and Bulgarians sidding with them, then moves to knock out the Russian Empire before turning west.
TTL, the Germans knows through their embassadors that the other Empire will declare war if they strike through Belgium and a blockade would run the significant risk of them running out of salpetre before the factories producing nitrates using the haber process are completed.
The French takes back Alsace-Lorraine but not much more while the central powers defeats the Russian Empire, France tries its own version of the Schlieffen Plan after TTL February revolution happens and it is nearly a victory. London is angry but doesn´t declare war. The Revolution happens in the Russian Empire and the Central Powers moves west while the ottoman empire agrees to join Berlin against London.
France collapses in the face of the counter-attack and loss of moral over the trench wars, Paris is seized and war starts between the Brits and the Central Powers when the latter decides to continue deeper into France. The French gov flees to Alger, the Royal Navy is engaged in a big battle, win it but faces major losses. The kaiser decides to concentrates on U-boot warfare while the Central Powers defeats the Brit Empire in Egypt, resulting in Italy joining the war.
It looks as if the British empire is about to be defeated with more merchant ships being sunk every day but fear not, the United States declares war to the axis powers over outrageous excuses!
Despite US intervention, the UK faces starvation but "fortunately", the governement keeps famines to "lesser" Britons, such as the Irish and the working classes. Riots breakes out but peace is preserved, with many british and yankee rifles, artillery cannons, more rifles and some poison gas too.
The US and the UK and its Free French vassals are staled in a trench/mountain warfare campaign in eastern Algeria with the Central Powers, even tanks doesn´t change the situation as supply lines are outstretched on both sides. With the French example at hand, all sides are warry to exaust their manpower quickly and thus there is little progress. The Central Powers, once secured in the west, intervenes in the east. They secure a puppet white governement from Arkangelsk to Volgograd and along the Volga, while the Japanese instaure their own puppet in the far east. Central asia and the Urals becomes a constant battle between Bolcheviks, Central Power and Greater Entente forces.
Strategic bombing follows in the 1920s but it does not destroy the Central Powers, the Central Powers concentrates on fighters that are used both on the front and to defend their cities against the terror bombings. The situation in the United States grows bleaker and bleaker as the war goes on, workers´s strikes are bloodily crushed the 2nd year after the war, a few more years sees extensive revolts in major cities, Washington declares martial law and is a democracy no longer.
In 1933, the Glorious Revolution starts in North America, there is no risk of the UK intervening as it is on US lifesupport to keep fighting, while the Berlin Junta does not see the reds and a conclusion to the war as a threat to their power. Between 1933 and 1934, the wars stops. The Central Powers are the world´s greatest power, UASR comes second (Red/white division breakes down the US army), The Empire comes 3rd and the Japanese 4th. The UASR´s international allies are the Bolcheviks, from east of the A-A and Volga lines to western Siberia, western and central China where they push back the Japanese and their nationalist sidekick.
The war seems over but the peace is fragile and some factions would like to establish yet another world order, with only the UASR and its Bolchevik allies having the determination to stop them and possibly, establish a non-dystopic future.
