OK, is there any way that the OTL Red Summer of post-WWI could've been transposed into the aftermath of the Spanish-American War, or poss even the Philippine-American War ? OTL in 1898 there were definitely racial clashes in Tampa & other Fla cities between Buffalo Soldiers, white servicemen & local civilians before embarkation to Cuba- WI there'd been perhaps even more such incidents after the troops returned home, with both regular black soldiers of the Buffalo Soldier regts & members of the black volunteer regts, after their combat experience against the Spaniards or the Filipino nationalists, deciding to take up arms to fight against Jim Crow in the Deep South ? Hmmm, perhaps if there'd been a greater component of black volunteers sent to Cuba & the Philippines as opposed to mainly regulars (as was the case in WWI with the 92nd & 93rd Inf Divs sent to the Western Front) ? What effects would such an earlier Red Summer have had on segregation, civil rights etc in the pre-WWI USA ?
