Red Italy

What if the 1946 Italian referendum had ended in a Civil War that let to Republican-Communist factions taking over the bulk of Italy?

I'm thinking there'd be a royal rump in Sicily and a red peninsula and sicily.

I’ve been to Italy, and it’s essentially organized chaos, especially in Rome. It’s not a society that lives and dies by order and rules. How they put a fascist in charge I have no idea; for Italy to trade out one totalitarian regime for another is a tough sell.

Yea. I'd have to kinda agree from my experience in Italy, but nonetheless, this could butterfly the result of the Greek civil war and would move the iron curtain westward. This also changes the effects of the Korean and Vietnam wars in my opinion because the US would most likely become more anti communist in a response to a communist Italy and Greece sending more aid and soldiers to S. Vietnam and S. Korea. The result would be a division of Vietnam like OTL's Korea, and a unified Korea. Question: what happens to the Vatican and San Marino?
