Red Indians

What are the chances of the Communists taking over and holding large parts of British India (Bengal, the south) in the aftermath of WWII, as London drags its feet on independence just long enough for the situation to spiral completely out of control?

I can't speak for Bengal but in the South the Communists were never particularly revolutionary- their power base was founded on the idea of social reform not revolution and they never had the sort of majority support to the extent necessary for a revolution.

Ironicaly, being no revolutionaries could help them then? Like, with some POD changes, gaining more popularity, to a point alarming the Congress Party maybe...

Would playing the southern india, dravidian edge do it? But that would surely make the communists unpopular north, let's say.

Some communist parties have been notable for their inability to deal with the nationalities question (Soviet CP with Great Russian chauvinism; Chinese CP with Han chauvinism).

I don't see why this couldn't be the case; bourgeois parties regularly fall to nationalism, and most CPs have acted as if they were bourgeois parties.

Now... There is a few versions of nationalisms, and while classic socialism frown on the ETHNIC one, civic one is fine. AND the former fine too if the nation is oppressed and colonised, it seems. Like Vietnam - National Liberation. Or the Black Panthers...

The issues of majorities VS minorities is a key part.

This is a mater of debate around the local far-left toward Quebec, by example.
