Red Greece

WI the Greek Civil War led to a divided Greece, a la East And West Germany?

Could Andreas Papandreou have wound up as the leader of the "People's Republic Of Northern Greece?" (My knowledge of the Greek Civil War is admittedly limited here)

The british airforce was already strafing communists there, I would imagine the allies would deploy some soldiers to ensure a capitalist greece. Perhaps they would push demobilisation back a little bit.

The soviets already were debating with the west on where to draw the iron curtain this might mess that up alot. If it does mess it up enough I don't see who would recognize a northern greece.

You need a POD in order to make it happen.

In OTL too many things went so, that the Communists were doomed in Greece.
You need Yugoslavia not to break bonds with Stalin, you need a POD in the Eastern Front that would result into a faster Soviet advance and a POD for the Allies, so that they don't grab Greece when the Germans retreat.
Perhaps a POD in North Africa with Axis being a lot more successfull, taking Malta and securing Egypt, thus Axis presence in Northern Africa is eliminated in 1944 and not 1943?

I doubt it - you're either going to have an entirely Communist Greece led by the KKE (EAM/ELAS), which the Western powers didn't want, or an entirely right-wing Greece as in OTL - even if the Venizelists are in bed with the right-wing. A KKE-run Greece is possible, but the KKE would need help from the USSR - would Stalin approve?

THE Andréas Papandréou? Are you serious?

**falls off chair, laughing**
