Recognized Start Date of "Current Era" = Founding of Rome?

Let's assume that, without somehow reducing the influence of Christianity in other areas, this timeline does not use the terms "BC" and "AD" and instead the "current era" begins at the founding of the city of Rome in our 753 BC. What would the effects be, other than the dates of historic events, release dates of movies/games/whatever, etc?

I'm aware that there are historic events that were directly related to a certain year, but I do not know what they are. I appreciate any replies.

Then the Christian-controlled cultures probably count from their calculated date for the Creation instead. In fact, I think that the Byzantines did do this IOTL anyway...

The Russians did until the early 18th century as well I think.

Hmm, that's interesting. I guess I should have researched the connections between time measurement and religion/culture/other factors.

So then, if not Christianity, is there some force that unites the world into using one calendar? Would practicality eventually force everybody to start measuring the passage of the years in the same way?

I could see Capitalism and the expansion of global trade necessitating the use of common schedules...except for those few holdouts who take longer to adapt.

"Those dirty Capitalists pigs think it's 2015, when it's only been 98 years since the glorious revolution! And they say we're backwards!"
*hearty Russian laugh*
