Rebel Kentucky

What if Kentucky was not invaded by the Confederacy, due to Polk's own idiotic initiative, but a Union force entered Kentucky territory uninvited accidentally/on purpose kind of thing instead. Kentucky then joins the CSA in protest more so than anything else.

How does this effect the Civil War?

Discuss.

Perhap's Grant, in amoment of impulsiveness following false reports of a Cinfederate invasion of Kentucky, would cross the border and start movie his army into the State to oppose the Confederates. Of course a falsely reported invasion followed dby Union invasion may turn the inhabitants of Kentucky against the Union but there was a large Unionist mentality in that state so it may take more than that.

Of course if Kentucky does seceed and join the Confederates because of Grant's invasion Grant may become somewhat of an embarrasment to the Union forces and might spend a good deal of the war in dissgrace.

I'm too tired to think properly what Kentucky could have brought to the Confederates but they would cirtainly be more than helpful to the Confederate cause.

The biggest advantage Kentucky brings to the CSA is a more defensible trans-Appalachian frontier. The Ohio River might generate some interesting advances in amphibious invasion. If you want to loose a few butterflies, have some Prussian observers take extensive notes....
