Reasonably wank the Cuban Missile Crisis for the Soviet

I generally fall somewhere between the fantastic Cuban Missile War TL on here and the Crowley 'What If' timelines. But let's say everything from luck to strategic brilliance for the USSR goes right. How would you do the best case scenario for them after the U2 finds the missiles?

...also, not relevant, but as someone who lives in and likes Omaha, NE, this would end poorly for me.

They avert a war and get to keep the missiles where they are.

I would say the OTL was perhaps the best result after all. Cuba could be kept in Soviet sphere and in debt of honor for USSR. In space of few years the IRBM's were irrelevant due to introduction of better ICBM's anyway, which is the reason I never can fully understand why US adminstration made a such of fuss of the IRBM deployment in Cuba anyway.

On the other hand, with Cuban Missile Crisis being such a public close call the both opponents would not consider nuclear war as a true course of action for the rest of the cold war. Without Cuban Missile Crisis some other crisis, perhaps a few years later with true MAD, could well become critical.

You mean the US State we had wanted since pre-civil wars day? While we have never owned Cuba, a lot of our policies can be better understood if one assumes the USA owns Cuba. I guess an "informal colony" is how we viewed Cuba.

Best case scenario for the Soviets is the Americans invade Cuba and get stuck in a decades-long guerrilla war whilst the Soviets are saved the hassle of having to subsidize Castro

The best case scenario would be the Soviets managing to have the missiles installed, the United States accepting it with reservation, and it not leading to nuclear war. Kennedy had the feeling that the missiles were not coming out. The problem being, it is such an existential threat to the United States, and would be a grave concern over US action through the subsequent years in Latin America and the region, with a knife directly at the jugular. And it would look really bad for Kennedy.
