After the fall of the Berlin wall and Communism, there were those who did not want to see Germany reunified. Among them, Margaret Thatcher. The reasons may be economic threat from a unified Germany on the continent, or even lingering resentment from the Second World War. This is not opposition to East Germany becoming a democracy. However, Germany did reunify -- with some awkwardness but nonetheless. Because there was some opposition to German reunification, this scenario has come up here before.
My question is, what is the realism of keeping West Germany and East Germany permanently divided, especially with East Germany reformed into a democracy?
