Reagan Beats Ford in '76

I don't know if Reagsn woud gave won I his favor, unlike Ford he did not pardon Nixon and he would have campaigned in the South. If he wins he has to run for relection in the year of the hostage crisis and the bad exon y

Assuming those things even still happen.

Assuming those things even still happen.

I don't see how we avoid them. Reagan can not keep the Shah in power or change who replaces him. He can't change the economic cycle, espically since the Democratic Congress won't pass his economic program.

Reagan:
1. Was not associated with Nixon.
2. Did not pardon Nixon.
3. Was not associated with the depression of 1973-1975.
4. Was a moderately charismatic speaker whereas
5. Ford had the charisma of a turnip.
6. Was the governor of California whereas
7. Ford was just a Congressman.

Reagan would have stomped Carter into peanut butter.

He can attempt to persuade the Shah to stay in country. Furthermore, Reagan can make a push on energy policy, and Democratic control of Congress failed to stop his agenda much of the time in our timeline.

Carter crushes Reagan in the '76 general. Dole never forgives him for losing (and, more importantly, doing what Dole wouldn't) and rallies most of the party stalwarts; Reagan will narrowly lose the nomination to GHWB, who in turn will beat Carter in '80. Reagan will be too old to be a credible candidate in '84 if he hasn't held office in a decade.

The fact that Reagan is not personally connected to Nixon will be irrelevant to most voters in '76, especially since Nixon and Reagan are from the same state.

Instead of Al Greenspan being appointed largely as a reaction to Paul Volcker, Paul Volcker is appointed largely as a response to Al Greenspan? You may have just butterflied away the 2008 recession :D.
