RAF 30s re-equipment

In the mid-thirties the EAF embarking on a large scale re-equipment programme.
Although the re-equipment involved re-activating new squadrons, it also meant re-placing old bi-planes with new monoplanes.

Hence the question - does any one know what happened to them:

- scrapped,
- re-furbished, passed down the line - but then they get re-equiped so ..
- re-furbished, passed to Colonial/Empire/Dominon Air Forces,
or
- re-furbished and sold to foreign Air Forces??

A lot went to other parts of the Empire. Saying that a lot were still in servive in the UK in 1939. There were still 42 Vickers Vildeeests' in service in the UK in 1939! There were also 1,826 Hawker byplanes in service and only 502 of those were trainning aircraft.

Some of the Vildebeest were in New Zealand . Lucky us. as it was our main anti ship Aircraft until near the end of 1941.

Pangur - thanks for the 'link'.

Yes, I know about the Vickers Vildebeest's wartime service, and even the Hawker Hector did dive-bombing at Calais in 1940!!
More interested in what happened to the aircfat as a general rule when Squadrons swapped their Furies/Gaunlets etc for Spitfires and Hurricanes?
I know the SAAF had Gloster Gaunlets - were these ordered newly-built or ex-RAF?
If 'no general rule' wondering if plausible to get an earlier build-up (aircraft & Squadrons) of the RIAF i.e. Indian Air Force.

PS This should probably been in the Help section.

No worries. The way I read it is that at first they passed the older aircraft onto other UK based squadrons and then to RAF squadrons overseas. Only after that did they pass them on to others
