Racially Ainu eastern japan

I know about Japanese with Ainu phenotype like Ken Hirai, is it possible for Eastern Japan to be filled or have looking people which speaks a Japonic language or a Japanese dialect while the Western part more mongoloid instead of having the Japanese people having a gradients of the two phenotypes.

Something less explored, I thank you...

There was the emishi of old japanese tales... maybe the first 'japanese' peoples, who lagged behind... or ainu who lived in the main island... factor them in?

I take it you're looking for a steep divide between Emishi in the east and Monjgoloids in the west. I guess the best way to generate such a divide where none persisted IOTL would be by establishing a political boundary there.

The problem is getting the ethnic Emishi to form a polity that can stand up to rice-framing Japanese without getting demographically swamped by the actual descendants of those farmers.

Probably the best way to do this is to have some Koreans also go across the sea to the Kanto/Tohoku region as the same time as those landing in Kyushu/Chugoku. That should allow somewhat similar ranges of "civilization" development for the Jomon/Emishi to gather enough strength and numbers to fight off thee Yayoi/Yamato. I can see a political border forming at the cultural boundary of Kansai/Kanto, and a stronger Korean presence in Western Japan.
