The premise is the South secedes, one way or another.

What I'm interested in right now is how do you think race relations would have evolved in the long run in an independent CSA? Slavery will eventually have to be abolished, I think that's a pretty widely accepted idea, but what then?

I mean unlike in South Africa, blacks would have been a minority in the South, but a large enough one(~40- i think?) to pose a credible threat. Would that result in an 'apartheid' that lasts indefinitely? Do you see an inner racial civil war coming? Or would whites eventually force blacks out of the country, or even seek their extermination? OR, if you're more optimistic, do you think there would have been enough opportunity within the South to reconcile the two races and create an equal society?
