RAAF F - 5 Freedom Fighter

Given the army didn't use the CMF in Korea, Malaysia, Borneo or Vietnam I doubt there is much call for a CAF with jet aircraft.

Nothing, the CAF flying squadrons were disbanded in 1960, by then part time flying wasn't a good use of resources.

I though the A-37s might be used for coin operations.

Going off topic I read one history on Australia's post war defence policy that suggested that the Vietnam War would have been more popular/less unpopular in Australia if they had used a mix of Regulars and volunteers from the CMF instead of conscripts.

That was because the next generation of aircraft was too complex for weekend pilots and weekend mechanics. IIRC they were equipped with Vampires when they were disbanded.

However, with the 1958 POD the Freedom Fighter might be considered simple enough. Failing that the A-37 or MB.326.

Though I think you're right and the most probable outcome is that they would have been disbanded anyway.

The RAAF wasn't interested in COIN, they had to be dragged into sending helicopters to support the Army and resisted getting gunships.

In the event that the RAAF opts for an Australian variant of the F 5A, what mid life upgrades could conceivably occur? Further, if the RAAF still opts for the F 111 is it likely that the F 4E or equivalent would be purchased providing a high / lo aircraft mix?

Would they choose F-20 As follow on aircraft? F20 sharwd many part with F5 and was cheaper to operate
