quickie WI: What If Indianapolis sunk earlier?

USS Indianapolis was sunk on its way back to Hawaii after delivering both Fat Man and Little Boy to Tinian.

What are the consequences if the I-Boat sank her on the way, taking the two A-Bombs down to the bottom of the Pacific.

How long before new bombs can be built to replace them?

Without the A-Bombs, what is the reaction in Japan to the soviet invasion of Manchuria?

How much longer does the war go on?

IIRC those were the only bombs, it would take months to replace them. My guess is the bombing, mining and sub attacks go on until more are ready...

No, the "Demon Core" was to be put into a bomb and ready as early as August 19th, with three more each projected to be ready in September and October, there were assemblies for two more bombs ready by August 14th just waiting on cores

A quick look at Rhodes 'The Making of the Atomic Bomb' matches that. Five or more Plutonium cores ready by the end of the year.
