Quickest possible, and longest possible, US Civil War

How short could the US Civil War plausibly have been? And how long could it have dragged on?

What would the effects of these be?

Shortest possible -- a different Bull Run leads one side or the other to march on the opposing capital (probably the Union on Richmond); the President is taken hostage, and a peace treaty is signed

Longest possible involves a protracted guerrilla struggle against the victorious union, which leaves the south into a perpetual state of martial law.

No Bullrun

Union forces march on Richmond in a wide ark. Wile there are a few battles with locals Union forces reach and surround the capitol. After a few days seage the revolt ends. Thus ending a minor event in history.

You could have Virginia stay loyal which would effectively destroy any chance of the Confederacy even being able to put up a meaningful fight. It would be like a child slap fighting a tank. Virginia I beleive was where most (if not all) of the South's industrial strength was along with it's major and most important weapons factories and it's best generals. So... Yeah. The only thing that would determine how fast the Union would win is how fast their soldiers can walk.

It was much longer than it should've been. If the war comes earlier and more border states secedes (so the South is stronger relative the North), I could see it lasting 8 years (the Copperheads would prevail and have a peace treaty signed after 8 years of failure).
