Quick Mass Rebellion

After the Boston Tea Party, the British unit in Boston was in a constant state of semi-siege by the Massachusetts militia, who often swarmed the detachments every time the regulars tried to leave the city, but without gunfire. This is why Gage tried to seize the Concord ammo dump in secret.

Samuel Adams proposed a quick crush on the British. Here is the simplified plan. The British had 4,250 troops in Boston. But Adams could bring 14,000 Patriot Militia (or whatever you like to call it since the rebellion hasn't even gone off yet) from the Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire militia (as in the part of the militia that would respond to orders from the colonial government instead of the crown ie the rebellious elements of the militia). In New England, the anti-British (or should I say anti-Gage but that's another story) snetiment was strong.

The targets would be the 3 places the British kept their artillery, which for some unfathomable reason were placed outside the barracks and places that could be easily monitored (at least until the Lexington fiasco). So Adams wanted to quickly bum rush and blow up/ drag away all the guns. Since there was plenty of powder, any guns that couldn't be taken would probably be disabled when the powder goes right? After this, they can seize the armory at Ticoneroga

His proposal was rejected by the radical component of the proto-rebellion and the moderates. The moderates were horrified by Sam's resort to violence when the King's men hadn't done anything besides the Boston Massacre. Sam was a radical, but some of his other radicals thought that his plan would trigger a crackdown from the British Isles and Massachusetts might end up subjugated like Ireland.

Well, what if the other radicals agreed and Sam mustered the militia? Militia can't fight in a sustained fight at all, except the Massachusetts militia to SOME degree were a bit less likely to flee than their other 12 counterparts. But something simply as "run up to guns and start dragging them away, detonate the powder if you can't" should be simple to follow. Fort Ticonderoga might be impenetrable for militia, but it doesn't take a genius to simply starve out a fort not on war footing. Sam's plan could bag Boston and Ticonderoga and kick start a rebellion one year early.

Or... maybe not. Perhaps the outnumbered British might be able to hunker down in Boston without artillery, at least if they hold both Breed's and Bunker hills. Just as Sam planed to call on the Patriot elements of the militia, the British could call on the loyalist elements (ok... not much in New England but there were SOME before the British evacuation of Boston, they might get few hundred). Perhaps the rebel mob around Ticonderoga would just wander away in a week on the account of being undisciplined militia.

And even under Sam's best prediction of kick starting the rebellion a year early and taking Boston and Ticonderoga, there is a bit of a problem. In OTL, the British had lots of trouble getting domestic support to put down the rebellion until the Declaration of Independence, with some officers simply refusing to fight and asked to be put on a desk job instead (and so many did so they couldn't court martial them all). After the DoI, the British got domestic support but soon the French got involved. Under Sam's best predictions, would the British response be forceful, swift, and draconian?
